Barnsley Digital Media Centre

If your company is innovative, creative, forward-thinking, stylish and exciting, the brand new Barnsley Digital Media Centre (DMC) is for you. Due for completion in June/July 2007, it will be a £9.7 million state-of-the-art building located within Barnsley's urban centre and is part of Remaking Barnsley's multi million pound investment to regenerate the local area. Across Yorkshire and Humber, the digital industries "cluster" of companies employs more than 110,000 people and is an area forecasted for strong growth. In South Yorkshire, there are more than 2,700 companies employing more than 21,000 people in the CDI sector. The DMC is aimed at these Creative and Digital industries offering 113 separate business units in a supportive and nurturing setting for start-up businesses through to relocating businesses. The Centre will also offer high-spec meeting rooms and conference facilities along with a fully equipped creative brainstorming room, large circulation areas, internet café and technical showcase area which can be utilised by the tenants of the building. These features will develop the DMC as a hub for this important business sector which currently well established in Yorkshire.

The units in the centre will range in size from 1/2 person 'workpods' at 180 sq ft through to 1150 sq ft offices for more established companies. It will be a vibrant business space designed and developed to help creative, media and digital businesses to grow. It will offer a unique and exciting location for start up businesses wishing to develop and exploit the potential of digital technologies as well as for established businesses looking to be part of an active and growing creative and digital sector. The DMC will provide access to networks of business advisors and can provide practical business support and specialist technical advice.In the interim period before completion, Oxford Innovation who will be managing the building, have secured a deal with Barnsley College located next to the DMC, which will offer flexible hot-desking space for companies wishing to establish themselves at the DMC. Facilities available at their Business Solutions Centre include high-speed internet connection, telephones, access to business support and advice, and the ability to move to the DMC immediately upon completion. This facility is great for companies wishing to establish a new base in Yorkshire who can recruit new staff ahead of time without the worry of having no-where to work from until the DMC is completed. It would also suit new companies who currently do not have premises to work from who could be based at the College with access to business support and advice.
