Jigsaw Programme Update January 2008
The e-SY Skills programme, incorporating Jigsaw, is due to finish on 31 March 2008, with the non-accredited Business Skills Training element fundable up to 31 January 2008.
The current phase of the programme (Phase Three) was contracted with the Learning and Skills Council in May 2007 with a challenging target of 1200 new Jigsaw learners to be recruited by 31 December 2007.
Initial progress was slow due to a number of factors, including the impact of the floods in the summer of 2007, but thanks to the efforts of all concerned with the delivery of the programme, numbers began to rally around September.
A three month extension to the programme was agreed with the Learning and Skills Council and this has enabled around 1100 learners to be signed up before the 31 December deadline, giving a total of over 3750 Jigsaw learners for the whole of the programme.
In addition to Jigsaw, e-SY Skills has to date supported training for over 1600 existing employee learners in South Yorkshire which means that the programme has supported over 5350 individuals with training across over 500 companies.
The focus of broker activity now shifts from the recruitment of new learners to ensuring that all learners complete their planned training before the programme end date of 31 March 2008 so that all financial claims can be processed.
